Indian Elephant Trying To Counter The Evil Designs Of The Dragon

India it seems has decided to disregard the Chinese warning regarding railway line on the Arunachal Border. Instead it will augment the plan with building 4 more railway links. Plus ITBP is acquiring cameras which will peer 20km inside the Chinese territories.

Readers might remember few weeks back the Chinese decided to issue a threat to India when it was made public that India will build 1800km long road along the border. China has been irked by its own mis-calculation that India will keep its side under-developed giving them a huge strategic advantage.

The Modi government has taken it a step further and has decided to build 4 more railway lines for the purpose of the troops. According to sources the proposed railway lines are

  1. Misamari-Tawang Railway line 378 kms
  2. Himachal Pradesh-Jammu and Kashmir, Bilaspur-Mandi-Manali-Leh 495 km
  3. Assam-Arunachal Pradesh, north Lakhimpur- Silapthar line 240 kms
  4. Assam-Arunachal Pradesh, Murkongselek-Pasighat-Tezu-Parshuram Kund-Rupai Siding line 256 km

The PM has already issued orders to the Minister of Railways for starting the survey and submit a detailed budget for this project with exact routes etc. Due to the terrain many obstacles will have to be overcome and the survey alone will take 2 years to complete.

These proposed lines will run through some of the most strategic areas giving our forces an advantage during any form of conflict.

Projects like these should have been initiated by the previous UPA regime during its 10 years of mis-rule but for unknown reason the Congress Government decided to keep India at a disadvantage. It is very rare in Indian history that we get 10 years of relative peace. Defense ministry should have used that time to improve the infrastructure but it refused to do anything.

Even ITBP after the recent border skirmish with China has accepted that it is very poorly equipped to take on an increasingly aggressive and dangerously adventurist chines army. Thus it has decided to buy cameras which can look into the Chinese territories upto 20 km and has started testing one of them by placing it on one of its outpost.

According to reports these camera with thermal imaging feature will be used to keep track of any medium to large scale movement of Chinese army over a fixed period. But it doesnot stop there instead plans are to lay fibre optics cable along the border to connect these cameras for real time monitoring by not only ITBP command HQ but Delhi too.

China new target of global jihad

It is increasingly becoming apparent that China has or will become the new battle ground for Jihad's to rally. News coming out of China indicates a major incident in the troubled province of Xinjiang.
It is learnt that rioters had a free for all in the city of xxx, loud explosions could be heard and report says the casualty to be around 60-70 people. According to Chinese media this includes around 45-50 rioters and rest are civilians and policemen.

The ethnic muslim uyghur's are organising themselves for a showdown with the brutal communist regime.  Not only has china publicly executed members of this community, it has put severe restrictions on their personal freedom. Some of these restrictions are quite similar to that put on Jews during the Nazi regime.

To further humiliate them, china has made its mission to resettle a large Han population in Xinjiang and these foreigners are now the wealthiest and most powerful community while the original dwellers of this land wallow in abject poverty.

The amount of religious persecution and repression is chronicled in this article.
Ramadan, the Muslim holy month, has just begun — but a number of China's 23 million Muslims won't be allowed to participate in the daily fast that is so central to the holiday, and in some cases are even barred from entering mosques. Authorities in Xinjiang, a largely Muslim semi-autonomous region in China's northwest, have sharply limited Ramadan observance for Muslim students, teachers, and civil servants, who are now prohibited from "fasting and other religious activities."

Even teachers are being used to guard the entrance of mosques so that their students cannot offer a simple prayer. While civil servants have been forced to sign solemn pledges that they and their families will not fast during this holy month. While the communist party does not mind if han Chinese students go to church or monastery. Question is why two rules for two different communities.

So it should not come as a surprise then that score of these oppressed individuals in their misguided belief have turned to the new Caliphate and joined the ranks of ISIS.

China's 'expansionist' urge

Two more instances of Chinese intrusion reported in East Ladakh; One in Demchok and the other in Towkhin in Ladakh. The Indian Army and the Chinese troops had a tough face off. As China's aggression along the LAC is increasing, will India take a tough stand?

New Chinese road detected on the border.

Indian armies patrol party has spotted a new road link to Pangong. Due to the serious repercussions feared by the army and the general penchant for Chinese to grab Indian territory, army has intensified its patrol along that area. This was spotted on 18th of August since then LAC patrolling has been increased.

Readers might remember the Chinese People's Liberation Army(PLA) advancing several kilometer inside Indian territory at Demchok on July 28th. This lead to a heated argument with the Indo-Tibetan border Police (ITBP) jawans on the Indian side
China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) has made several attempts to enter into the Indian territory, triggering tension along the international border.
On July 28, the Chinese troops intruded in Demchok in Southern Ladakh after which the Chinese military and soldiers of the Indo-Tibetan border Police (ITBP) had a verbal altercation for about half an hour. The Chinese military later withdrew.
At around April last year China had sent a platoon or more men to set up tents inside our territory in Depsang  in Daulat Beg oldi sector. They stayed put until we had to abandon and remove fortifications from some of our posts in Chumar.
The new Central government in India has already made up its mind to go full throttle to develop border roads on our side facing China. It is evident that GoI has seen through the expansionists theme running through the Chinese government. India is not the isolated victim, same has happened with Vietnam, Philippines and Japan. The common thread is China forcibly and surreptitiously grabbing land and sea area of militarily weaker nations.

Ministry Of Defense admits that nearly 80 critical border roads have been stuck for many years in the due to environmental hurdles. These include crucial GS (General Staff) roads that link border outposts and camps to the main road head. We must take it with a pinch of salt though because MoD is legendary for messing things up. Some years ago they could not find enough workers to work on these roads so blaming every other ministry for their failings is pretty damn easy.
The new environmental minister of India has removed all hurdles plaguing these projects. Some rules have been modified so that construction may be started without clearance from his ministry. Plus the compulsory afforestation rule for every project has been waived off too.

In fact, the Defence Ministry has also been working on a legislation to ensure exemption of strategically significant projects — especially those along the LAC — from green regulations that may be hampering progress.

Why is Daulat Beg Oldie So Important?

Daulat Beg Oldie Standoff: An Assessment
V. Mahalingam
The logic of Chinese encroachment

Legally speaking China has no business to be in areas beyond its borders. Its border ends at Xinjiang, which was incorporated into the Chinese empire when it was conquered by the Mongol leader Genghis Khan in the 13th century. Known to the Chinese as Xiyu (“Western Regions”) for centuries, the area became Xinjiang (“New Borders”) upon its annexation under the Qing (Manchu) dynasty in the 18th century.1 The then borders did not include areas of present Chinese claims.

Rantings Of The Chinese Communist Media Blames Indian Democracy For All Evil

Beijing: Blaming India and its multi-party political system for the delay in solving the vexed Sino-India border issue, Chinese state media on Wednesday said the two sides were "far away" from reaching a "fair" agreement due to "suspicion and distrust", which is also impeding progress in bilateral ties.

Though the 15th round of border talks were concluded last month leaving a "good trend" in the bilateral relations, some contradictions and issues are still severely disturbing the normal development of the China-India relations, a write up in the People's Daily online said today.

"The first issue is the China-India border negotiation. China and India have held 15 meetings of special representatives for the border issue.

"Although the meetings have made many positive achievements, it is still far away from reaching a fair, just and reasonable agreement," the write up in the opinion page said.

The main barrier still comes from the Indian side as Indian media insist that the border line between China and India should be based on the "McMahon Line" left by British colonists, it said also India believes that the border dispute between the two countries covers not only the eastern region of 90,000 square km but also 30,000 sq km in the western region.

"This wrong argument, which totally disregards the history, still has supporters in India," it said.

Yet another reason that delaying the agreement was India's multi-party political system as well its society which is extremely complicated, it said.

"Various Indian political parties have different understandings on the China-India border issue, and therefore, it is hard for them to reach an agreement on the issue," it said.

The Daily also referred to India's concerns about China-Pakistan ties.

"There are still misunderstandings about the China- Pakistan relations. Since the beginning of the 21st century, the Indian government for the most part believes that China has adopted an "equal justice" policy in handling India-Pakistan relations, not only attaching importance to developing relations with Pakistan, but also paying attention to the bilateral relations with India," it said.

There were concerns about Gwadar port and Chinese navy coming to India's door step and "inflow of nuclear technology from China to Pakistan", it said.

Referring to India's concerns about Chinese troops in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), it said they were the personnel sent by China to assist Pakistan in the earthquake relief work.

"The China threat theories like these are quite popular in India. Indian public opinion still holds that at present China is looking for a balance in relations between India and Pakistan to seek the best interest in South Asia and that once the India-Pakistan situation has changed, China will give full support to Pakistan and use Pakistan to curb and combat India," it said.

"Through the above contradictions and problems between China and India, the information passed to the people is that China and India do not have enough mutual trust.

"Suspicion and distrust are still the biggest obstacles to developing friendly relations between China and India," it said.

The governments of China and India should both "stand on a higher level, and take a broader perspective, to enhance mutual trust and eliminate the problems and give full play to the wisdom and talents of the people of China and India, to creatively draw a beautiful blueprint for the final settlement of the China-Indian conflicts and problems," it said.

The Red Shadow Grows Darker On Indian Ocean

Slowly but surely the Chinese master plan of colonizing Indian Ocean and its countries is materializing. The signals are unmistakable nobody in his right mind can deny it (except Prime Minister Of India). Some anlayst say it is to protect Beijing's economic interest, I beg to dis-agree. Yes everything at the end boils down to economics but China now see's itself as a superpower and wants an empire similar to what it had few thousand years ago. Thus it does not matter to them if they support tin-pot dictators or terrorist regimes.

In the past three weeks Beijing has committed to supporting Ugandan forces operating in Somalia and to helping the Seychelles fight piracy."It is very clear that the Chinese leaders recognize that military force will play a bigger role to safeguard China's overseas interests," Jonathan Holslag, of the Brussels Institute of Chinese Contemporary Studies said.

"There is a willingness, and even a consensus, in China, that this process will take place."
The Indian Ocean is strategic, Holslag said, noting that 85 percent of China's oil imports and 60 percent of its exports are routed via the Gulf of Aden.

It is believed that China only has three ships in gulf of Aden to fight piracy, and though the number seems insignificant it is the first step toward a larger role. You can say these ships are the Avon guard of a larger colonizing force coming behind. Even though at present the military co-operation is very low profile yet it can be turned up to full fledge bases at any time.

"The mere fact that China has a multi-year naval presence in the Gulf of Aden has great symbolic and diplomatic significance," said Frans-Paul van der Putten, senior research fellow at the Netherlands Institute of International Relations Clingendael.

"Symbolic because it shows other countries that China is an emerging naval power in the region, and diplomatic because China uses its navy ships for occasional visits to ports along the Indian Ocean rim, which helps it strengthen its diplomatic ties with countries in the region," he added.

The shock came when Seychelles asked the Chinese to set up a naval base in their waters to protect them against the pirates. Does it sound familiar to Indian Readers, this was exactly the same excuse used by the British Colonizers in Indian sub-continent.

"China needs port infrastructure to supply its ships in the Indian Ocean, and covering a wider zone could make sense," said Mathieu Duchatel of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.

Beijing in its effort to stabilize Somalia where it has a huge economic interest has asked Uganda to use its military might and in return Uganda will get payed 2.3 million USD. It is like China is using these small countries to fight each other and once they are weak enough it can easily exploit them without having to pay any thing.

China has already started building a network to link Ethiopian oil reserves to a port in Somalia. So you can be assured that if war breaks out in Somalia China will do its utmost to keep a friendly government in power irrespective if that government is led by a terrorist. If Ethiopia fails to tow the line as per their liking then China with the help of Ugandan mercenary army and Somalia can engineer some kind of war in Ethiopia to get a better deal.

Though every military expert worth his salt has warned the Indian Government but the pacifist Manmohan Singh government turns a blind eye to the build up in the Indian ocean as it has done to the build up on the India's eastern border. What it fails to realize is that these steps will have a long time impact on the strategic balance.

Pakistan an arch enemy of the Indian Republic and a terrorist state has been cozing up to China just to get some kind of security umbrella, with China dominant in the Indian Ocean it will have no fear from the Indian Navy which is vastly superior to a non-existent Pakistani Navy.

Both Washington and New Delhi, already concerned about China's activities in the Pacific, take a dim view of its ambitions in the Indian Ocean.

Pakistan Air Force May Have Deployed Chinese UCAV

Early reports from late October indicate that Pakistan may have deployed Chinese CH3 Attack Drones against us. Though this report remains to be confirmed and the data for CH-3 is sketchy at best. So I am not too sure of its capabilities. Unless it is a flying disaster if it can hit a target like the predator then it will be a huge flip for the Pakistani Army against any enemy in future wars.

China Has Deployed Advanced Next Generation Nuclear Missiles on Indian Border

China has deployed more advanced and survivable solid-fuel nuclear capable CSS-5 MRBM missiles against India as a 'deterrent posture', Pentagon has said warning that a high degree of mistrust continues to strain their bilateral ties.

The PLA has replaced liquid-fueled, nuclear-capable CSS-2 IRBMs with more advanced and survivable solid-fueled CSS-5 MRBM systems to strengthen its deterrent posture relative to India, the Pentagon has said in its annual report on Chinese military build up to the Congress.

Pentagon said that New Delhi remains concerned by China's close military ties with Pakistan and its growing footprints in the Indian Ocean, Central Asia and Africa.

The report noted that Pakistan continued to be China's primary customer for conventional weapons and sales to Islamabad included newly rolled out JF-17 fighters with production facilities, F-22P frigates with helicopters, early warning and control aircraft, tanks, K-8 trainers, F-7 fighters, air-to-air missiles, anti-ship cruise missiles and missile technologies.

Country: People's Republic of China
Alternate Name: DF-21
Class: MRBM
Basing: Road mobile
Length: 10.70 m
Diameter: 1.40 m
Launch Weight: 14700 kg
Payload: Single warhead, 600 kg
Warhead: Nuclear 250 or 500kT, HE, submunitions, or chemical
Propulsion: 2-stage solid
Range: 2150 km
Status: Operational

The CSS-5 is a tactical missile system, though it has a few strategic applications. While its payload and accuracy are sufficient to destroy civilian population centers, it lacks the range to reach key Russian or US cities. The CSS-5 can be effectively used as a deterrent against India, which is increasing its nuclear arsenal. It can also strike a number of key US bases and allies in the region. However, it is capable of being used against large targets such as airports, seaports, or key staging areas. It is reasonably effective against these targets even if not deployed with a nuclear warhead, making it an effective tactical system. In the case of an attack on Taiwan, CSS-5 missiles with conventional warheads will almost certainly be used to soften the island prior to an invasion by striking defensive forces.

Chinese Warship Confronted Indian Navy Vessel In International Waters

A Chinese warship aggressively confronted an Indian naval vessel shortly after it left Vietnamese waters in late July in the first such reported encounter between the navy's of the two countries in the disputed South China Sea.

The unidentified Chinese warship demanded that the India's INS Airawat, an amphibious assault vessel identify itself and explain its presence in the South China Sea, a newspaper reported.

The London-based paper said, that the Indian warship was in international water after completing a scheduled port call in Vietnam.

It termed the actions of the Chinese warship as the latest example of Beijing's assertiveness which had irked India and Vietnam.

China claimed that South China Sea in its entirety, rejecting claims by other nations like Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan over the resource rich region.

The paper said that Vietnamese foreign ministry has acknowledged that the Indian warship had visited the country from July 19-22 but said, it had no information about the incident.

The newspaper said, that Chinese defence and foreign ministries declined comment as did the Indian government.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently condemned acts of intimidation in the international waters in an apparent reference to mounting tensions in the South China Sea.

MiG Denies Helping China In J-20 Black Eagle Project

Russia has never transferred any stealth technology to China to assist it with its J-20 Black Eagle fifth-generation stealth fighter prototype, Russian plane maker MiG said on Friday.
"We are not delivering any equipment to China, and never have," MiG spokeswoman Yelena Fyodorova said.

MiG's statement follows claims in the Russian and foreign press last week that China's J-20, unveiled over six months ago, is based on technology and components from the Russian Mikoyan Article 1.44, a stealth technology demonstrator aircraft, development of which was suspended.
Some analysts say the aircraft have close similarities.

"The back end of the J-20 looks awfully like the 1.44, as does the overall layout with delta canards," said Douglas Barrie, an air warfare specialist at the London-based International Institute of Strategic Studies.

"If it's a coincidence, it's a striking one. Russia may have provided technical support, but there is nothing substantial to prove that. China has however relied on Russia for much of its defense procurement for a decade and a half," he added.

China's J-20 Black Eagle is thought to be conceptually similar to the U.S. F-22 Raptor and the Russian T-50 jets, but is likely to be just a technology demonstrator or prototype rather than a viable fighter.

China has been working on a future fighter program since the mid-1990s, but the J-20 is not expected to enter service before 2018-2020.

Earlier in the month, Mikhail Pogosyan, the head of Russia's United Aircraft Corporation said that China's fifth-generation fighter program is more for effect than substance and branded the maiden flight as a "show-off."

China relied on the Soviet Union for much of its aviation technology until the Sino-Soviet split after 1961. China then carried on developing copies of Soviet and Russian aircraft.

Beijing also relies on Russian engines, radars and electronic components for many of its other aircraft, such as the JF-17 fighter it developed jointly with Pakistan.

China Testing DF-21D Missile To Take On U.S. Carrier Battle Groups

China's ambitious new long range ballistic missile with a range of 2,700 km dubbed as carrier-killer is undergoing tests, a top military official has said.

Chen Bingde, chief of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) General Staff acknowledged that China is developing Dongfeng-21D with an ability to strike moving targets - including aircraft carriers - at sea.

"The missile is still undergoing experimental testing and will be used as a defensive weapon when it is successfully developed, not an offensive one," Chen was quoted as saying during his rare interaction with media coinciding after talks with Mike Mullen, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff here yesterday.

"It is a high-tech weapon and we face many difficulties in getting funding, advanced technologies and high-quality personnel, which are all underlying reasons why it is hard to develop this," he said about the ballistic missile which has a maximum range of 2,700 kilometers.

The development of the missile caused considerable in US as it was believed to have been developed to target aircraft carriers.

Chen also said the first Chinese aircraft carrier, Varyag a refurbished version of an old Ukrainian ship will be used for research.

"I have nothing more to say about Chinese aircraft carriers, since prominent media outlets have already reported on them so much. Our American friends all know that China bought an old aircraft carrier, the Varyag, from Ukraine. It's very valuable for us to research these things this way," he said.

Don't meddle in South China Sea dispute, Beijing warns US

Taking strong exception to US navy''s proactive presence in the oil rich South China Sea, China which is grappling to resolve maritime disputes with several ASEAN countries today asked it to stay out of the region.

"It''s not a proper time for the US to conduct military drills in the region with the Philippines and Vietnam," Chen Bingde, Chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People''s Liberation Army (PLA) said.

Chen made direct reference to US navy''s recent war games with the militaries of the two countries which raised strong objections to China''s claims of sovereignty over the oil rich disputed islands.

Beijing has warned other countries to stay out of the South China Sea dispute -- but insists it will not use force in its standoff with Vietnam.

With tensions rising in the South China Sea, Beijing has warned other countries not to meddle in its standoff with Hanoi while saying China will not use force to address the problem.

"The recent situation in the South China Sea was due to unilateral actions taken by some countries, which damaged China's sovereignty and marine interests. These countries made groundless and irresponsible remarks in an attempt to expand and complicate the South China Sea issue. That is the cause of the problem," Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei said Tuesday (Jun. 14).

"China is committed to a peaceful resolution of the South China Sea issue through bilateral dialogues and consultations with related parties. We will not resort to the use of force or the threat of force," he said. "China is safeguarding its own legitimate rights, not infringing upon others."

Beijing's statement followed Vietnam's live-fire drill in the South China Sea on Monday.

"This is the most serious [situation] ever in terms of bilateral relations since 1991 when countries agreed to put past issues aside and start to build good relations," said David Koh, a Vietnam expert at Singapore's Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, according to the US-based National Public Radio (NPR).

Hanoi accused a Chinese patrol boat of cutting the cable of a Vietnamese boat which was conducting seismic research about 120 nautical miles off Vietnam's central coast on May 26. Hundreds of Vietnamese people on June 5 and 12 gathered in Hanoi to protest outside the Chinese embassy. Vietnam held a live-fire naval drill Monday (Jun. 13) in the disputed area where China, Vietnam, Taiwan, the Philippines, Malaysia and Brunei have sovereignty claims.

China's foreign ministry said Chinese fishing boats were chased away by armed Vietnamese ships while near the Nansha (Spratly) Islands in the South China Sea and called for a peaceful resolution to the dispute.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton last year said the freedom of navigation in the South China Sea is a national interest of the US, a statement which angered Beijing. The South China Sea and Strait of Malacca is a vital international shipping route.

The United States has sent the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington from its home port of Yokosuka in Japan to patrol the western Pacific, including the South China Sea.

US Senator Jim Webb, who heads the Senate Foreign Relations subcommittee on East Asia, on Monday urged Congress to pressure China over the issue, saying, "I think we in our government have taken too weak of a position on this. We should be working in a multilateral forum to solve these problems," according to Agence France-Presse.

The Philippines announced Monday that it has started to use the name "West Philippine Sea" to refer to the South China Sea to assert its own territorial claims in the area.

The Liberation Army Daily, the newspaper of China's armed forces, meanwhile warned "unrelated" countries to back off from weighing in on the dispute. "China resolutely opposes any country unrelated to the South China Sea issue meddling in disputes and it opposes the internationalization of the South China Sea issue," the newspaper said.

"The US seems to have sketched out vague security guarantees for countries such as Vietnam and the Philippines. Washington therefore is able to further flare up conflicts in the South China Sea so as to counter China," Ji Qiufeng, a professor at the School of Foreign Relations at Nanjing University, told Global Times, a state-run Chinese daily noted for its nationalistic editorial line.

Chen''s comments came as Mullen chairman of the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff, asserted that US is a Pacific power and would remain so.Mullen in his address to the Renmin University yesterday has declared that Washington''s enduring presence in the Asia-Pacific Region is important and it will continue to be so."This means China has to deal with the reality of growing US involvement in the region in the long run.

Taiwan Missile Test A Big Flop Again And A Huge Embarrassment

It was sold as a demonstration of Taiwan’s high-tech defenses against a rapidly rising China. But Tuesday’s firing of 19 air-to-air and surface-to-air missiles before an audience of top government officials and reporters might end up having another equally important effect for Taiwan: scoring pity points with China hawks in Washington.

That’s because the test was a flop. Six of the missiles missed their targets. One, a Sparrow air-to-air missile, “cascaded harmlessly into the South China Sea less than 30 seconds after launch,” according to the Associated Press.

The country's media had been invited to watch the exercise which was designed to show that Taiwan was capable of defending itself against a possible attack from China.

An embarrassed President Ma told reporters: "I'm not satisfied with the results. I hope the military will find out the reasons and improve its training."

Taiwan's defence ministry on Tuesday confirmed reports that a new supersonic anti-ship missile had missed its target during a routine naval drill, in the latest in a series of setbacks.

Analysts say the Hsiung Feng (Brave Wind) III missile, designed to cruise at a maximum speed of Mach 2.0, or twice the speed of sound, and with a range of up to 130-kilometres, is difficult to defend against.

But the defence ministry said the weapon, the island's first locally developed supersonic anti-ship missile, had failed to hit its objective during the drill due to a computer glitch.

"The ministry will improve on the screening of hardcore facilities... to ensure the quality of the missiles," it said in a statement.

Taiwan started to deploy the Hsiung Feng III on its warships last year in response to China's rapid naval expansion.

But the island's military leaders were left red-faced after two failed missile tests earlier this year that earned rare criticism from President Ma Ying-jeou, who urged the armed forces to practice more.

The Taipei-based China Times said the latest failure was particularly embarrassing for Taiwan's navy, since it "coincided" with Beijing's much-publicised military drills in South China Sea in mid-June.

The missiles are estimated to cost Taiwanese taxpayers at least Tw$100-million ($3.45-million) each, the report said.Ties between China and Taiwan have improved since Ma became the island's president in 2008 on a China-friendly platform.

But China still regards Taiwan as part of its territory waiting to be reunified by force if necessary, although the island has governed itself since 1949 when a civil war ended.

In 2001, Washington agreed to sell Taiwan $6 billion in new weapons, including four destroyers, a dozen P-3 patrol planes and eight submarines. So far, only the destroyers — revamped U.S. Navy models from the ’80s — have been delivered. The planes have been stalled until around 2015. The submarines became such a political hot potato that nobody would agree to build them.

The same thing happened in 2006, when Taiwan requested 66 new F-16 fighters to bulk up its aging, shrinking air force. In principle, Washington agreed to the sale. But politics have indefinitely held up the actual transfer.

The botched missile test could help Taiwan make its case for the new fighters. “The Taiwan government may be using this exercise to send a message to the U.S. that its air defense is facing mounting pressure as China continues to develop the new generation of fighter jets,” Wang Kao-cheng, from Taiwan’s Tamkang University, told the AP.

Russia Catches A Chinese Spy Trying To Smuggle Parts Of Su-27 And Mig-29 To China

courtesy wikipedia
China is at it again, trying to steal what is not its. This time it is the Russian fighter plane parts. I wonder what they are up to in India

Customs authorities in Russia's Far East have launched a criminal case against a Chinese citizen who attempted to smuggle spare parts for Russian MiG-29 and Su-27 fighters last year, a customs' spokesperson said on Friday.

The man, whose identity has not been revealed, was caught at one of the border checkpoints in Transbaikal region in July last year. Customs officials found six stepping motors, two piston pumps, 54 connectors, an elapsed-time meter and other parts in the trunk of his car.

"It took experts from the Defense Ministry almost a year to prove that the confiscated equipment is part of assembly kits for MiG-29 and Su-27 fighter jets," Yulia Philipova said."A criminal case has been opened," she said.

It is the second attempt by Chinese nationals to smuggle spare parts for fighter jets from Russia in the past three years.

A Chinese man was detained at the same border checkpoint in 2009 while trying to smuggle power supply circuits for Su-27s.

China is notorious for producing copycat versions of military equipment from all over the world.
Russia has accused China of producing its own clones of some Russian-made weaponry, including the Su-27SK fighter jet, in violation of intellectual property agreements.

Chinese Influence On the Rise In the Indian Ocean, India Worried

China, seeking to gain influence in the Indian Ocean, has reportedly increased its aid to Sri Lanka dramatically since 2005, a US Congressional report has said.

“In the view of some analysts and observers, China is seeking to gain influence with the Sri Lankan government as part of a ‘string of pearls’ naval strategy to develop port access in the northern reaches of the Indian Ocean,” said the report by bi-partisan and Congressional Research Service.

Indian defence planners are reportedly particularly concerned with Chinese efforts to develop ports in the region, the eight-page rare report on Sri Lanka said. China is reportedly investing significantly in the development of a port in Hambantota in Sri Lanka on the country’s southeastern coast.

“China is also reportedly helping to develop port facilities in Gwadar, Pakistan; Chittagong, Bangladesh; and Sittwe, Burma. Colombo was also reportedly upset with Western calls for a truce in the lead up to their defeat of the LTTE in May 2009,” the report said.

It also said that Sri Lanka offers a test case of how to respond to a brutal military victory over a violent ethnic nationalist separatist movement.

The report said that Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has a firm hold on government and popular support among the Sinhalese majority for his leadership in presiding over a military victory over the LTTE in 2009.

“The government’s reluctance to seriously entertain notions that the Sri Lanka army’s conduct was in any way suspect at the conclusion of the war raises questions about whether public international condemnations of what appear to be heinous war crimes can be effective,” it said.

It informed the lawmakers that the UN Security Council is unlikely to meet the demands of the human rights bodies and several countries about the need to set up an enquiry into war crime victims in Sri Lanka, because of the opposition from two veto wielding members.

“The Security Council would have to request the ICC (International Criminal Court) to investigate war crimes in Sri Lanka. Russia and China, as permanent members, have veto power in the Security Council and are thought to oppose formal Security Council involvement in the matter,” it said.

At the same time the report noted that some have observed that a strong effort by the United Nations and the international community to force a criminal investigation into war crimes could be counter-productive as it would likely further bolster Rajapaksa’s popularity on the basis of Sinhalese nationalism.

China Nothing Original About It Everything Is A Cheap Copy

(Research Devashish Bajpai)
China has built a domestic copy of the famed Su-27 Flanker fighter and may compete with Russia on third-party markets if it sets up the full-scale production of the plane, according to Russian media.

China has acquired 76 Su-27SK fighters from Russia since 1992, and bought a license for production of another 200 planes in 1995, in a deal worth $2.5 billion.

"Since 1996, the domestic version of the Su-27 aircraft, dubbed J-11, has been produced at the Shenyang Aircraft Corporation (SAC) with the use of Russian components," the Vedomosti newspaper said.

The licensed production of the Su-27 has given China its most capable fighter aircraft while also providing a vehicle for its industry to gain knowledge of third-generation fighter manufacturing, Vedomosti said.

About 95 aircraft had been produced in China by 2003. However, the 1995 agreement did not include the transfer of avionics and AL-31F turbofan engine technology, and the Chinese manufacturers had to rely on the Russian supply of these systems. Contract for the remaining 105 is still pending. It is believed that Russia cancelled the arrangement in 2006 after it discovered that China had reverse-engineered the technology and was developing an indigenous version, the J-11B.

Pakistani navy is very interested in buying J-11B for itself, latest report from Pakistan indicate that they are trying to negotiate a deal with the Russians, who are already smarting under the rejection of MiG-35 by the Indians.
